They say that the ancient Maya did not know the nature of time until they saw a snake. As the snake moved, slithering forward in fluid spirals, the truth of time's movement was revealed.
In Mayan prophecy the world as we know it will end in 2012. The cycle of time we live in will give way to a new era. The Maya had a complex system of pictorial writing, today we call these pictures or symbols "glyphs." The glyph that represents the coming of this new age shows a woman. This woman is powerful, healing, strong. She is the resurgence of the feminine. In her hand she holds a staff, a serpent. She walks towards the new age.
I don't know what the future holds for me, or for any of us. I don't walk with a staff, although that would be quite badass. I'm not even exactly sure what it means to be a woman. But I do know this: The world is changing, moving. And we can all feel it.
Today I leave on the trip of a young, restless lifetime. I'm traveling across the country and back again...and back again again. The world is moving so I'm going to get moving too. I don't know what I want to do with my life (if I hear the word "career" one more time I will fold my diploma into a fortune teller and give it to the next eight-year-old who passes my way) but I do know what makes me feel alive. So I'm doing what every red-blooded American needs to do-- following my bliss.
